The Brown Co. Agricultural Society was honored to host an estimated 10,000 visitors to the Vietnam Wall Memorial. I personally saw two groups of Georgetown students walking from school to see the Memorial. Over 1700 young adults from schools all over this area attended. More than just a chapter in a history book, I hope this event is a reminder to them what we owe our veterans. Very proud of Brown Co. supporting the parade along Route 68 with huge American Flags honoring the wall as it traveled to the fairgrounds. Over 350 motorcycles and countless others led the truck here. The story we were told about one Vietnam Veteran visiting the wall was heartwarming. The Brown Co. H.E.R.O. committee are to be thanked for their dedication in bringing this wall to our county. As a final tribute, the H.E.R.O. committee are placing a monument at the fairgrounds honoring the Vietnam soldiers from Brown Co. who died serving their country.

tomTOMCLUXTONThe 2017 Brown County Fairbook is dedicated in the memory of Thomas Cluxton. We lost Tom last year after thirty-two years as the Director representing Union Township on the fairboard. Tom became a Director in 1984. Tom and his wife, Marilyn, and family have been a vital part of the fair.

Tom’s major involvement was as chair of the Feeder Calf Show as well as the Open Beef Show. In addition he was chair of the Monday night Parade as well as serving on several committees as chair and member of: Demo Derby, Election, Sanitation, Market Barrow Show and worked on many more committees.

Tom’s family continues to be involved with the fair as his son, Todd Cluxton, has replaced his father as the Union Township Director. His wife, Marilyn, each of his other two sons and wives and grandchildren continue to help with the feeder calf show on Tuesday night.

Tom and his casual smile will surely be missed at fairboard meetings and at the fair. We feel blessed to have had Tom as a fairboard member.
